When dredging, the rake head is put down to the bottom of the water, and mud is absorbed by mud pump from the bottom to the mud hopper of the dredger through the rake head and mud suction pipe. When the mud hopper is full, the rake sails to the mud throwing area to open the mud door to discharge mud, or the excavated soil is directly removed from the ship. Some dredgers can also be unloaded in the mud bin of the soil to suck out for blowing.
